Replating Technician

Company Overview:

Noahtu Shipyard is a renowned maritime facility specializing in ship repair, maintenance, and refurbishment services. With a commitment to excellence and innovation, we ensure the seaworthiness and operational integrity of vessels entrusted to us. As we continue to expand our operations, we are seeking skilled and experienced Hull Replating Technicians to join our team.

Job Overview: The Hull Replating Technician at Noahtu Shipyard will be responsible for executing the replating process to restore the structural integrity and durability of vessel hulls. The successful candidate will possess expertise in metalworking, welding, and marine engineering to perform replating tasks safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Hull Assessment and Preparation: Conduct thorough inspections of vessel hulls to assess the extent of corrosion, damage, or deterioration. Prepare surfaces by removing rust, scale, and old plating using abrasive tools, wire brushes, and chemical treatments.
  2. Material Selection and Cutting: Select appropriate materials for replating based on vessel specifications, metallurgical properties, and regulatory requirements. Cut and shape replacement plates to match the contours and dimensions of the hull sections using cutting torches, plasma cutters, and metal shears.
  3. Welding and Joining: Perform welding and joining operations to attach replacement plates to the hull structure securely. Utilize various welding techniques, including arc welding, MIG welding, and TIG welding, to achieve strong and durable weld seams that withstand maritime conditions.
  4. Quality Control and Inspection: Conduct quality control checks and inspections throughout the replating process to ensure adherence to technical specifications, welding standards, and regulatory requirements. Verify weld integrity, dimensional accuracy, and surface finish using visual inspections, non-destructive testing (NDT), and ultrasonic testing (UT) methods.
  5. Surface Treatment and Coating: Apply protective coatings and anti-corrosion treatments to replated hull sections to enhance durability, prevent corrosion, and extend service life. Follow manufacturer guidelines and industry best practices for surface preparation, priming, and coating application.
  6. Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols, procedures, and regulatory guidelines to minimize risks of accidents, injuries, and environmental hazards during replating operations. Utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with shipyard safety policies and procedures.
  7. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of replating activities, including material specifications, welding procedures, inspection reports, and work progress. Generate comprehensive documentation for client review, regulatory compliance, and project management purposes.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification required; vocational training or certification in welding, metal fabrication, or marine engineering preferred.
  • Proven experience in hull replating, metalworking, and welding techniques, preferably in a maritime or shipyard environment.
  • Proficiency in welding processes, including SMAW, GMAW, and GTAW, and familiarity with welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS D1.1, ABS Rules for Welding).
  • Strong knowledge of metallurgy, material properties, and corrosion prevention methods relevant to marine applications.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, welding symbols, and engineering specifications.
  • Attention to detail, craftsmanship, and commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual labor and work in confined spaces, elevated platforms, and adverse weather conditions.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
